The 2012 Grand Cherokee is $16,373 trade-in and $18,044 private sale.

08 Outback XT with 164,500 miles: $7,400. About $2,800 less than the value when I bought it 17 months and 30,000 miles ago. I think if I sold it I could get at least $8,000 though

My trade in is $5,022, and my private party is $6,815...which is wrong, very wrong indeed.

Kinja'd!!!

This highlights the problem with KBB for older cars; they can’t distinguish trim levels. Realistically, for a 2004 S600 with a running V12 and a brand new suspension/power steering pump, the market would bear $12,500. Even with 125k miles. But KBB is calculating it’s value based on every 2004 S430 with 125k miles and a lot less equipment than mine has. You’re talking about a really niche market, and a cult following, around one particular version of a car. Values get thrown off by all the lesser versions because KBB is for checking the trade in on your 4 year old Altima SL.

KBB is funny with rare/collectable cars.

96 Viper GTS with 14,500 miles is apparently worth 31548 trade in and 31868 private party. Find me one priced for that without a salvage title and I’ll buy it today. That reminds me, I need to switch insurance companies on that car as they base their valuation on KBB.

2012 Caddy CTS base 15979 trade in, 17819 private party. Seems about right

2008 Fit 2275 trade in, 3344 private party. I’d say this is about 1k low.

I just did this calculation this weekend to see about ditching my 6-speed 2013 outback $17,500/$19,500 (trade in/private party) for an automatic station wagon/suv. I still owe about $5500 on it so the math is really lousy for me. I’d come out with $12,00o at best for a down payment on another 25-30k car and have to carry another 4 year loan for about $300/month.

Please don’t hate me, my wife drives the car mostly and she would be much happier with an auto. Looking at a CX-5 with AWD or toyota venza? We have a big dog so I need a big cargo area.

It says my XJ8L is $1308 trade-in, $1794 private party, but I’m sure I can get more than that from a private party. Firstly, someone already offered me $4500 for it a few months ago. Secondly, I’ve gone about fixing all of the known weaknesses, so I’m sure I can price them into the selling price to anyone who has done their research. Jag owners aren’t known for making sound financial decisions.

Not that I plan on selling it, though. I will drive it until the transmission grenades itself and then I will cry and ocean of tears.

2004 Mercedes Benz S600 Designo with 89,000 miles in good condition: $7,638...Lol any S600 for 7000 will be a dumpster fire of a car.
